My Story
I first became interested in barefoot running when I read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. Here is his website. For anyone who has not read this gem, it is a must read if you enjoy running or are looking for inspiration to start. It is hard to find trails that are all dirt or grass, which is the most forgiving terrain to run barefoot, but there are also some minimalist footwear that does a great job giving your foot just enough protection while still supporting a barefoot stride.
I will run laps around parks completely barefoot when I can, but I also love running on the beach especially when I am skimboarding. When I'm not completely barefoot I wear Luna sandals, which are basically a thin peice of rubber tied to the bottom of your foot with leather straps. Sometimes I'll wear mocasins in the winter time. If I am tackling some rocky trails I'll wear my Mixmaster II's by Merrell.
I started this site because not only can barefoot running be very fun, but it will force you to adopt a more natural running stride rather than a modern heel-to-toe strike which can cause injuries.
